Breathing Life into Lotus Painting

An old friend, Baixi, visited us with his kids over the weekend. Then we were sidetracked by the cone of the projected track of Tropical Storm Fay, which threatened to be the first 2008 hurricane to come acalling. That fizzled out, putting me at ease to continue my painting. The results: lotus.

Previously, I have painted the outline first followed by coloring in. Today, I decided to reverve the process: one-stroke to complete the color first, be it for a flower, a leaf, or a stem, then follow up with the outline. The effort seems to breathe life into the painting, adding some lustre to the previously rather bland look. Don't you think?

The lotus paintings now look more soft and gentle, putting minds at ease. Mom is really showing her diversity and range! All of her paintings, both past and present, are lively and lovely.
