Celebrating Buddha's Birthday

The Buddha's Birthday is celebrated to pay respect to the Buddha, thanking him for his teaching, and to enjoy the friendship and happiness that those in a Buddhist community enjoy. Celebrations typically include music, parades, dragon dances and shared meals.

Bathing the Buddha is part of the celebration. Using a wooden ladle, you pour water over the baby‟s back and shoulders to commemorate the Buddha‟s purity and to bathe our own minds, returning them to purity. Thousands of Buddhists throughout the world also use this time to pray for world peace.
