The evolving details of Bamboo painting

From a lone bamboo tree, to a bamboo cluster, to the company of a single bird, then a couple of birds, covering the spectrum of dynamism from stillness to flight. That's the versatility of painting in varying details, limited only by the imagination of the one wielding the mighty brush.

Ah yes, the ever evolving art of bamboo drawn by Mom, which is always a pleasure to view at. More depth, more versatility, more beauty!

My favorite, hands down (I never figured out what that expression means exactly...), is the third one, with the lone bird in the center. It has a very peaceful quality that I like about it, a certain solitude --alone, but not lonely-- that I like about it.

Etymologically, Wikepedia has this to say:

The origin of this colloquialism seems to have its roots in mid-19th century horseracing. When a horse jockey is nearing the finish line far ahead of the competition, "with victory certain", he could drop his hands, and relaxing his hold on the reins and still win the race. "By the late 19th century the phrase was being used in non-racing contexts to mean 'with no trouble at all.'
